He then went on to his first duty station aboard the USS Forrestal CV-59, cooking over 18,000 meals a day. He was nominated for White House duty shortly after arriving and took the new post. Six months later he arrived at 5 A.M. at the West Wing of the White House.

From the White House to your house

He has been making people happy with his enthusiasm of the fine art of food and drinks ever since. Ed took his love for food that his Dad (Gene) had taught him and made it his own entering food contests all around the United States, winning several major awards. His love still continues and his desire for flavorful fun food and creativity of the art is limitless!

His first day was with President Bush and Arnold Schwarzenegger in the Roosevelt Room. A big day. Ed spent the next 4 years traveling the world with Presidents Bush and Clinton cooking for the White House Staff Mess. While also working numerous State Dinners, he developed his skills and his love for cooking and great service.

Backstreet Blues Chophouse and Oyster Bar is the culmination of Ed Lyons' years of experience in cooking and serving. His skills in fine dining are brought to life at this restaurant which strives to provide Gainesville with class and style. His vision for the restaurant has truly come to life, making the presidential dining world a reality for everyone.

Ever since Ed was a little boy his Mom, Grandmommy, and Dad taught him how to cook. He took this passion all the way into the military where he developed his skills in the United States Navy Culinary School in San Diego, graduating at the top of his class.
